Hi, don't know if you remember Berserkistan, our online Balkan news service
from '96.
Berserkistan went the way of the dino, but I have come up with a better
concept--take people there and let them see it for themselves. Hence, The SA
Workshops has been born.
The new site is at www.linder.com/sarajevo
[Below is a press release from "News" on the Sarajevo workshop website - PBD]
Cheers,
Jim Bartlett
SA Workshops
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two years after NATO forces intervened to stop the fighting in Bosnia the
country has achieved a remarkable degree of stability. In light of this, James
Bartlett, a freelance correspondent who has covered the region since 1992, has
embarked on a bold effort to share the country he knows so well with those who
may not otherwise get the chance to see this remarkable corner of Europe.
"It's time for the average person to be able to go and share in a very
colorful and intriguing place. That's why I've started The SA Workshops. The
region in general and Sarajevo in particular is a remarkable place and
actually safer than most American cities. It is a departure from the everyday
like none other." Bartlett said in a recent interview.
In addition to it's schedule of active programs for writers and photographers,
SA Workshops will also be hosting programs ranging from alpine adventures on
Sarajevo's Olympic class mountains to programs for artists and musicians.
"It's a good way to see how a major city dealt with a very difficult time. No
lights, no water, deadly unrest. By anyone's estimate, Sarajevo is a Y2K
compliant city. They had the mother of all dry runs."
