ANN SNITOW VISITED KOSOVA
Something unpredictable happened these days in Kosova. On September 20 and
21 Pristina was honoured to be visited by the Chair of the Board of
Director of NEWW.
This miracle is an event to us in Pristine, so carefully isolated from the
world, abandoned and left aside, comparing to visits in other countries,
that might even not be registered at all. Ann Snitow's visit was
unpredicted, but it happened.
Mrs. Snitow met with the Legal Committee of Kosova and discussed many
issues of value for the local women. She visited personally the Centre for
Protection of Women and Children and showed her admiration on the hard
work of this women's Centre, where many activities, such as health
prevention, social work, legal advices, human rights and education,
together with family planning is being developed.
All women were pleased having her here. This could also mean that in close
future, Kosova women would be able to offer their agenda on some
international meeting and many of NEWW to partake, or at least have some
more people coming. The discussions, during the meeting with Mrs Snitow
were of several topics. All local women tried to explain their work and
their activities through the light of the six year's state of emergency,
living a "legal", by them unrecognized life and a paralel system's life,
by them recognized, but hard to believe. Taking into consideration these
two lives, and adding the third and the main one - the domestic life,
where violence has increased to the glass ceiling, they were trying to
explain how difficult is the life in the region.
