Fr, Franjo Radman at Franciscan seminary in Visoko,
I need addresses for
you and Fr. Anto Batinic. Is he still in Frankfort? If so I have that
address. Is there any way that we can communicate
with one another via
e-mail? IS that impossible or too expensive? I am still out of work. But
I look forward to hearing from you if this message thing works, and if the
pipeline is open.
Love and prayers for you and for the people of Bosnia.
Signed, Jim

NEWS FROM PRISHTINA, KOSOVA: PROTEST
Prishtina
24.05.96
=============
WOMEN'S PROTEST IN KOSOVA (former Yugoslavia)
slogan: WITH POETRY AGAINST TANKS AND REPRESSION
Today, on May 24 1996, all women's groups protested against the
repression that is being excercised in Kosova. The slogan of women's
groups was "With poetry against tanks and repression" naming all kinds
of repression that is being used against the Albanian population, that
is not accepting rules of war. Due to civilized means, the protest of
women was calm and peaceful calling for understanding, tolerance and
dialogue. This time they decided to do it through poems written and read
by women creators themselves. Insecurity should not be either the mean
or the way of living.
The call to worldwide women of concern was: SHOULD PEOPLE BE TREATED
AS REFUGEES IN THEIR DOMICILE COUNTRY? THIS IS WHAT WE ARE
IN KOSOVA. PLEASE SUPPORT US AND LOBBY WHEREVER YOU CAN,
WHAT INSTANCE YOU CAN, IN ORDER TO PREVENT WAR HERE. WE
DO BELIEVE THAT OUR CONCERN IS YOUR CONCERN TOO.
THANK YOU SISTERS.
The protest started at 17.00 hours and lasted until 19.00 hours.

Sevdie Ahmeti

Hi All,
I've received a request to have the following posting I wrote translated
into Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian/whatever. Does anybody have the time/energy/
ability?
Thanks much,
K.
KL> Dear Friends,
KL>
KL> (On behalf of the Bistrica people):
KL>
KL>
KL> The bad news first:
KL>
KL> We're off-line at Bistrica and have been for about 10 days now.
KL> It seems that the camp manager (whose phone line we use) has cut off the
KL> phone while (allegedly) awaiting a list of phone charges, etc. from the
KL> post regarding last month's (allegedly) huge phone bill. And it seems
KL> that us (our project and users) are the suspects for running the phone
KL> bill up. Never mind that our xpoint records show that we cost him less
KL> than a week's worth of cigarettes for an entire month and a half. And
KL> never mind the possibility that his staff in the kitchen ran up his phone
KL> charges while he was under arrest in Split last month facing charges that
KL> he extorted from the King Zvonimir Fund (which means money he [allegedly]
KL> pocketed that was meant for people in Bistrica). The investigation is
KL> still underway, of course.
KL> This is occurring only a couple or three weeks after I liberated
KL> our newly donated photo-copy machine from his office. We received the
KL> donation a full two months ago, but the camp manager met the installation
KL> guys in Supetar when they arrived off the ferry and promptly installed it
KL> in his office. It's safely with us now, but he kindly used all the toner
KL> up and cost us many days of stress.
KL> Meanwhile, the regional ODPR person came last week to investigate
KL> (primarily me) and our project. She'll return on Wednesday with her
KL> verdict. I wonder if she liked the Feral Tribunes we had stacked in our
KL> room.
KL>
KL> But the good news:
KL>
KL> We've opened a "reading room" (in our computer room), where we place
KL> Ferals, Nacionals, and the next-best papers including some from B/H.
KL> Papers are allowed to be checked out, and the Ferals and Nacionals seem to
KL> be checked out continuously. Ragib, one of our two coordinators, opens
KL> the room daily at 8:00am and cooks coffee.
KL>
KL> The Woman's Club in Bistrica is showing initiative and their
KL> "representative" Marija (who is also one of our project coordinators) has
KL> written a letter on their behalf to some conferences requesting assistance
KL> in finding wool, etc. (You'll see this posting when we get back on line!)
KL> She's also sent some letters out via regular post. We'd appreciate
KL> suggestions in regard to her posting!
KL>
KL> Incidentally, Marija and Ragib are working for free under these pressures,
KL> though we're seeking funding for them.
KL>
KL> Meanwhile, our first newsletter is still in the works, and we'd like to
KL> thank DPHR, Vesna and ARK, and Zenska-Infoteka for their support in
KL> sending us information (including names/addresses of human rights,
KL> women's, etc. groups). Anyone else who thinks of something that might be
KL> of interest to include in our soon-to-be newsletter for people who are
KL> refugees - please send it! But please write either (kod) "Marija Pocrnja"
KL> or "Ragib Mujkanovic" on the envelope if you send it postal mail. (Our
KL> last two things have come to us already opened.)
KL>
KL> And thank you to Wolfgang Sheur for his project-saving 500dm that is
KL> helping us buy some little things we need, such as newspapers, books, and
KL> coffee.
KL>
KL> X.
KL> Katherine.
