for twelve year old paralyzed Hrbinic.
Hrbinic Elvedin needs some operation soon. there is an 80% -chance that he
might be able to walk after the treatment.
So far his future looks very dark. He and his younger sister live in a
camp in Varazdin,Croatia. Their father is dead, their mother is alive in a
serbian prison in the Gorazde region, where the family comes from. She
will be free next week and join their children after four years.
The chance for Hrbinic to get healed always seemed to be financially
impossible, but now it is very close.
The costs of 170,000 dm (ca.246,000 usd) are almost covered by generous
donations by some states`ambassies in Zagreb and privatemen in
Garbsen,Germany, where our initiative works.
Now Hrbinic needs 27,000 dm (ca.39,000 usd) more, and if we cannot raise
this money by the end of may , the donators will withdraw the money we
already got.
I know it is a very expensive treatment Hrbinic needs, and there are many
children like him who need help. But in this case we are very close to
make it happen. The hospital does not want to treat Hrbinic at all, if not
the entire sum is covered.
Hrbinics disease is called
infantile celebralparesis / spastic diplegia. Arms and legs are
affected.The feet are hyperextended and ankylotic. The hands are affected
less.
I am not sure what this all means. When I met Hrbinic last year in the
camp he sat on his bed all day. he needs to be carried around.
After the treatment he probably will be able to walk. Can you imagine how
important this would be for the family ? Some weeks ago the children did
not know their mother is alive. Now we can help with their hard future.

We are Bosnians and Germans in Garbsen, Germany who support the engagement
of Nezir Mehmedovic who has been for 25 times in Bosnia and Croatia.
He helps refugees directly by bringing goods and medicine to the camp in
Varazdin and his hometown Vares.
I wrote this letter, because i have e-mail and speak english.

Prosegue con successo la mobilitazione in rete per la costruzione del
NETSTRIKE III in solidarieta' con Mumia Abu-Jamal e Silvia Baraldini.
Per quanto riguarda la situazione in Italia la notizia e' gia' stata
pubblicata da numerosi media (Novaradio, Cinquestelle, Popolare Network,
Avvenimenti, Unita', Cuore, Tirreno ecc.) mentre gia' tre ritrovi pubblici
(Zut di Firenze, Casa del Popolo di Sovigliana di Vinci e CSA Intifada di
Ponte ad Elsa) si sono attrezzati telematicamente per tutti coloro che non
posseggono un modem ed un computer e vogliono partecipare comunque
all'evento.
Di seguito il testo aggiornato e corretto secondo le indicazioni dei
numerosissimi "netstrikers" che hanno sottoscritto da tutto il mondo
l'appello in solidarieta' di Mumia e Silvia.

With regard to the Italian situation, many media has just "published" the
news (Novaradio, Cinquestelle, Popolare Network, Avvenimenti, Unita', Cuore,
Tirreno ecc.) while three different meeting-places (Zut of Florence, People's
House of Sovigliana di Vinci and Intifada squat of Ponte ad Elsa) have just
implemented telematics devices so to let partecipate to the event also
"non-high-tech" people.
Along with these news the up-to-date message taking in account the
suggestions of the quite many netstrikers that have subscribed for Mumia and
Silvia.

giornalista vicino alla marginalita' sociale degli USA.
Silvia Baraldini, anch'essa accusata ingiustamente di crimini mai commessi e
mai provati, e' da 14 anni rinchiusa in un carcere americano per motivi
politici, ed e' gravemente ammalata.
Come gruppo di lavoro sulla comunicazione telematica vogliamo realizzare un
piccolo ma sincero momento di solidarieta' verso queste due persone.
