Iz poslednjeg nastavka u "Nasoj Borbi": Tajna uspeha Dejtonskih pregovora
-------
Milosevic i Silajdzic o "svetoj zemlji"
Jedno od teskih pitanja u Dejtonu bilo je koliko ce Federaciji pripasti
teritorije juznog toka rijeke Drine. Silajdzic u pregovorima sa
Milosevicem nije uspio da dobije Ustikolinu. O tim pregovorima govore
Kristofer Hil, Haris Silajdzic i Momir Bulatovic. Hil kaze: "Staro selo
Ustikolina je sada naseljeno samo Srbima. I ako imate to selo onda imate
dobar komad Drine". Silajdzic: "Tamo su Gorazde, Ustikolina i Foca uz
Drinu. Mi smo htjeli to poducje." Bulatovic: "To je bilo apsolutno
nemoguce u tom trenutku uraditi, i sjecam se opaske koju je neko rekao -
kako mozete da trazite nesto sto nije vase." Hil: "Milosevic je rekao-
to je srpsko selo, zasto to hocete?" Silajdzic: "Ja sam rekao Milosevicu
- tamo je stara dzamija, najstarija u Bosni, a on mi je odgovorio - one
budale su je unistile, tamo nema nista. Ja sam onda rekao - to je nasa
sveta zemlja. A on je kazao - daj, bre, Harise, isti si kao Karadzic,
govoris o svetoj zemlji."

CROATIAN AMERICANS CALL FOR IMMEDIATE REIMPOSITION OF ECONOMIC SANCTIONS ON
THE BELGRADE REGIME
WASHINGTON, D.C. ( July 3, 1996) -- In a statement issued today, the
National Federation of Croatian Americans (NFCA) strongly urged the Clinton
Administration to immediately seek the reimposition of economic sanctions
against Serbia and Montenegro for its role in allowing indicted Bosnian Serb
war criminals to violate the Dayton Peace Accord and undermine the upcoming
Bosnian elections.
This peace agreement, signed by Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in
December 1995, explicitly states that there is no place in public life for
indicted war criminals and that there will be "full cooperation" with the
international war crimes tribunal in the Hague. To date, this has not
occurred, as Radovan Karadzic continues to serve as president of the Serbian
Democratic Party.
Last November the tribunal indicted as war criminals, for a second time,
Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his military counterpart, General
Ratko Mladic. At that time, the tribunal charged both with "genocide" and
with being "directly responsible" for the "systematic mass killings" of 8,000
Muslims at Srebrenica in July 1995. The Tribunal described this act as "what
may be the worst massacre committed in Europe since WWII." Yet, one year
later, and with Milosevic's blessing, both war criminals still roam free.
However, as the official Serbian representative, and signatory to the Dayton
Peace agreement, Milosevic is stringently obligated to ensure that these, and
other, war criminals face justice at the Hague, or risk possible reimposition
of sanctions.
It was precisely tough economic sanctions against the Belgrade regime,
imposed back in 1992, that forced Milosevic to suspend his military quest for
a "Greater Serbia" and help bring about the Dayton Agreement. In order to
insure free and fair elections in Bosnia this September and salvage what
remains of the Dayton Accord, the Clinton Administration must now bring new
pressure to bear on Mr. Milosevic. In recognition of NATO's current
unwillingness to arrest war criminals and Mr. Milosevic's lack of
cooperation, this clearly requires the reimposition of economic sanctions on
Belgrade.
"We believe that it would be far more effective to bring pressure on
Milosevic now, while the full NATO force is on the ground in Bosnia, rather
than to wait until next year when the NATO troops are withdrawn or reduced,"
stated Steve Rukavina, President of the NFCA. The Clinton Administration
should act immediately and decisively in building a political consensus with
its NATO allies to implement a tougher policy against the Bosnian Serb
leadership, via their benefactor, Slobodan Milosevic.
