Dear Andy, regarding your message - I include a recent note from a Teacher in Sarajevo, Mrs Zlata Zahirovic. It would be great if you could get a little project together to provide even one classroom with supplies. Please note that just now regular mail directly to Sarajevo is still problematical, so the most efficient way to help is to collect cash donations and wire them to Sarajevo. Helping the Sarajevans buy goods locally will help rebuild the local economy. You can also send in-kind donations to the IRC (Intl Rescue Committee) in Zagreb, Croatia, which will carry them to Sarajevo. You will find that the postal rates are prohibitive for large amounts of goods, but affordable, say, for a package of goods collected by a classroom. This sort of personalized shipment would be a big morale boost for the kids in Mrs. Zahirovic's classroom, and be perhaps more concrete for your kids than collecting money. In any case, if you are serious about a project, you can correspond with Mrs. Zahirovic at . It would help assure good comms. if you sent a cc of your letter to . Once you have conferred with Mrs. Zahirovic, I'd be glad to help arrange for the wire transfer and/or contact at IRC Zagreb. Ciao - Kenan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello I'm teacher in Bosnia school. My school is in Sarajevo and it's primary school for children of age 11-15 year. Our school has 1200 schoolboys. It is quite large school for us. Despite of terrible war, our children managed to stay children. My wish is to make their life easier. Our club "Children of the Sarajevo" has a goal to give children a chance to keep up correspondence. Ours schoolboys have a lack of bags, pencil-bags, calipers, sport-shoes, etc. I'm teaching mathematics and informatics (unfortunately, we don't have computers in school). Dear friends, it would be nice if you can send us some of items listed above. teacher Zlata ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Date: 26 Jan 1996 07:05:40 > Reply-To: Conference "zamir.chat" > From: Transmasa@aol.com > Subject: Re: http://mediafilter.org/SJ/Pages/What Policy? > > I'm organizing schools to participate in gathering items for children > there.
