I am writing a scholarly paper on the campaign of rape by the Bosnian
Serbs.  It is well-documented that a significant tactic in this war is the
use of public and large-scale acts of sexual violence.  Fortunately, the
Human Rights community has begun to respond.  I am interested in two
questions: First, why has sexual violence been so widely used by the
Bosnian Serbs?  Second, how have the leaders of the Bosnian Serb military
forces promoted the use of sexual violence and caused it to be used in so
devastatingly effective a manner?  In the course of my research, I have
been focusing on the history of the conflicts in the former Yoduslavia, on
cultural norms specific to Serbs, Muslims, and Croats, and on uses of
propaganda and media in influencing the behavior of military and civilian
participants in this conflict.  ANy thoughts, or leads to further
information, would be greatly appreciated.
