Living in the United States, a country which has not experienced and
endured and suffered

first-hand war, I am amazed and ashamed of the blind, illusiory comfort in
which we live

devoid of true meaning and purpose of our existences, lacking an
appreciation and respect

for all life as well as our own. Purposeless existences. Although you in
Sarahevo who live

in the midst of death, still hold a lit candle within during these dark
and difficult

times. Although I am unable to lessen or stop the horrendous irradication
of your people

and your country, I can only offer you my deeply felt awareness and sorrow
I have for you,

admiring your persistent strength of spirit and learning from it.
