Robert Preston is a great embarassment to Beaumont, as he would be to any city who has the misfortune to have him as a resident. (Yes, I do live in Beaumont, and yes, I do know robert Preston.) Robert has a crusade against all law enforcement in Beaumont and Jefferson County. He seems to think that no one should ever be arrested for anything. Anytime a police officer does his job, Robert is there to yell and scream that they were brutalized, discriminated against, etc,etc. The only proof Robert has of this is the fact that criminals go to jail. And yet for all of his ravings, law enforcment still provides Robert with the same quality protection they do all of our citizens. (No, I am not in law enforcement.) Just consider this to be the demented ravings of a madman, figure you also have one in your city, get a good laugh, and move on. Someone like Robert is not worth the trouble.

He was wrongfully tried and convicted in May of this year for a triple murder that he didnot commit. The family has been threatened, harrassed, and even assaulted by two dirty detectives in the Hamilton County Sheriff's Dept. They have no physical evidence or motive. My father's shotgun was said to be the murder weapon in the trial but the forsenic evidence proved that it was not the murder weapon. Sounds to me as if people in your city are similiar to people in mine. They want to commit wrongs against society. They want to engage in illegal and immoral activities. And when the police come to stop the illegal activities, you cry racism. You cry corruption - all because the police in your community are trying to protect the greater good. In my city, a black man tried to run down a white officer. The officer had to discharge is firearm in order to protect himself. Most of the black peopl in the area accused the officer of committing a racial based homicide. Fortunately for the officer, several ethical and moral black men & women came forward with the truth and the officer was acquitted of charges. My advice to the people in your community is: 1.) Get an education so you can make better decision. That way you will stay our of trouble; 2.) Get the PD's side of the story. You may be surprised in what they have to say (this may be difficult to do as most citizens have their mind made up before speeking with police officials); and 3.)Stay out of trouble. Don't engage in questionable behavior.
Funny how a large number of respondants on here are so pitifully stupid, that they must resort to using fowel language. It has often been said that people who are unable to communicate through words other than profanities are lacking in intelligence. I, personally, have noticed that when a person's position is so weak, they often resort to profanity, and often make personal attacks on the people they are debating with because they just do not possess the intelligence required to engage in intellectual conversation. The person who wrote the initial article (R. Preston) can not even write in an effective and intelligent manner - making it difficult to understand what it is that they are saying. And judging by this, it is my conclusion that the people who have a complaint against BPD are undereducated, and are engaging in illegal activities that have the police taking action against them. The equation is simple: Little or no education (as the individual above is demonstrating) often times engage in illegal activities. There is a direct correlation between the initial and the latter. Try going back to high school, and maybe getting a two year degree, and then reevaulate the actions of BPD. Otherwise, you will be stuck in the same dilemma that you are in now.

Joe Stevens who is a member of the City of Hampton Virginias Fire Department, murdered William Thompson and Thomas Adderly in April of 1992, by refusing them care on a 911 call, both were 21 years old and both died in agony begging to be helped. Lt. Robert Curtin murdered 1 year old Aziah Brown in January 1992 by withholding care to him on a 911 call. Lt. i need help i am being harrassed by a pct 4 constable in haris county he threatens me all the time with jail i am on deferred felony probation and he says that he could just say one word and i would go down we lived next door to one of his buddies and his wife called the cops at least 3 times a month for loud music which was not even able to be heard outside and with 2 little girls sleeping in the next room they have cuffed and stuffed my boyfriend for listening to his radio in the driveway the neighbor is going to school to be a constable i like him and i dont think it is him as much as it is his wife she calls this particular constable on his cell phone if we fart her way just yesterday he threatened me with felony retaliation for getting my trashcans from the old house there are no no tresspassing signs and we just moved across the street last week and she cussed me and threatened to beat my a.. etc and the cop threatened me she even assaulted me with a bread machine i need help and i dont know where to go...please help my e mail is moanetteb@yahoo.com

I was arrested last summer in beaumont for flipping off a cop and yelling "fuck the pigs" at him He got me for disorderly conduct, three counts, in fact, and put the cuffs on me so hard that my wrists bled. Free speech my ass! I later found out that the supreme court overturned the conviction of a woman who was arrested for flipping off a cop. on a side note cops in beaumont hang out at the Pig Stand which is a greasy spoon diner. Appropriate isn't it?
As the former wife of a Beaumont Police officer I had to laugh when i read most of the comments on this page. It was either laugh or cry. I know of many nights when my husband would call me to tell me he was going to be late because there was a homicide or DWI that he had to investigate or a lost kid who may not ever come home again due to some sicko kidnapping him. I will never forget the night of our son's fifth birthday. We had been divorced over a year and he called to wish our son a happy birthday. We talked for a while until a call came over his radio that an officer needed assistance. A few minutes later the call that evey police officer and every police officers wife hates went over the radio. "Officer down". My ex had to leave immediately to photograph the scene as he was in ID. (Investigation Division). That officer gave his life trying to protect the citizens of Beaumont from a serial killer who was wanted in at least three states for the rapes and murders of several young girls and women. He was the first officer killed since the early thirties. He left a wife and children behind. I will agree there are bad officers but as someone else pointed out, there are bad doctors, priests, teachers and in fact,in any occupation there will be the bad examples. But I truly believe that not one of you "cop haters" would have the guts to put your life on the line every day and night of your career to protect the citizens in your district, even the ones that would just as soon put a bullet in your head just because of your choice of careers. Many times when my husband and I would be out after his shift with our son, a tired mother would point to my husband and tell their equally tired kid," to stop acting up or she would have that policeman take them to jail." Believe me I am not making this up. After hearing this for a coouple of years, I came unglued one night and went over to the woman and told her that she shouldn't say that to her kid. That if her child was lost or in need of help they would be too scared to go to the officer for help. Then I walked away. Maybe, just maybe the kid heard what I said. I hope that just maybe she might be able to understand and if she did ever need help she would be able to get it without being afraid of the officer. So many children are kidnapped and killed each day in the United States because they don't know how to protect themselves from the nut cases.

I hear of construction workers dying all the time, but does that give them the right to kill someone or abuse someone HELL NO! So how about miners, truckers and road workers, they face danger every day. Why don't we hear about them getting paid suspension because they couldn't take the pressure anymore and shot someone who seemed to drive and try to hit them while on road duty , or the thief who jumps a trucker for his cash , or a miner who is deep in the ground wears out and comes out a mad man and just kills everyone. So I don't believe for one minute that cops are heroic. I think there are good ones and bad ones, but the good ones need to get off their duff and stop the bad ones when action calls for it be brave, face off your partner if he is abusing his power stop sniffling and whining , be brave and don't hide it are you a CHICKEN. CAn you not face him when he is holding a suspect down and that man isn't struggling and your partner tortures him with pepper spray when there is no need for it . What are you , I thought you claimed to be brave and heroic.
I am a correctional officer and I am offended by some of these comments. First of all cops do not suck, if they werent around you probably would be dead by now. If you really want to see the Beaumont Police Dept in action - take your video camera to Crockett Street and sit outside of the bars. I was doing a study on drunk and disorderly people, really trying to catch them in action - what I taped was more like police abusing people and threatening to "whip" their butts. I tried to interview the police officers and was threatened. My uncle is a DA in north Texas. I am taking my videos to him over the Christmas holidays.
I the early morning hours of Nov 22, 2003, I left a nghtclub down on Crockett Street. I left earlier than my friends, who were having a bachelorette party. I left the BlackCat bar, after being refused by the deck clerks to please call me a cab. They laughed and said they didnt 'do that.' Although I had a few drinks, nothing can account for what happened next. While walking towards the busiest street downtown, I learned there WERE NO CABS. THEN, the a dangerous thing happened to me -- I recently had begun having seizures of unknown cases, starting October 26, 2003. One October 24, Social Security Admin gave me a favorable decision, after my FIRST hearing. Since that time, I no longer drive and depended on cabs. Before any cab could be located, I began experiencing vertigo, incoherence, and a complete inability to stand up right. The club called 911, after a FULL HOUR of my having seizures on the sidewalk outside the club. I honestly needed an ambulace. Instead a police offier handcuffed my hands behind my back, making it impossile for me to break any falls that accompany vertigo. My last good memory is of being handcuffed, then being allowed to fall flat on my face on concrete; it knocked me unconsious. To this day, more than 2 week from the incidence, I still have a terrible bruise on the left side of my face. sa well as knots on my head. I lost concscienusness. Additionally, when taken to Jefferson Country jail, I was thrown into a drunk tank -- with noting but sharp metal corners and painted brick. At some time during this incarcerated, my hands were put in nylon handcuffs -- I do not know how long they were on but I DO remember screaming bloody murder for them to be cut off. I am an insulin dependent diabetic, with diabetic pheripheral neuropathy. To this date, I know how complete numbess in sections of my boths hands. I had knots on my head bruises on my hips, knees, elbows, on the palms of my hands. These did NOT accure while was seizing -- I was in a well lighted rea, with not things for me to slap myself into. To this day, nearly four weeks since my arrest, I have lost sleep, totally no longer trust ANY law enforcement in this countyry/city. Even if I HAD been 'just drunk: -- thre is NO WAY any human being in the care of those to 'serve and protect' deserve to be treated like animals. I am considering a civil suit against the City of Beaumont for the use of excessive force, for their lack of education about illness that can mimic drunkeness, nd to remove the arresting officee (an Ofcr. Andereson) from the force. Rumor has it that is considered a 'rogue cop." HE NEEDS TO BE GONE. I am not wealthy, but the ACLU IS. I am not done with this case. I now have permanent nerve damage to both my wrists, running gown into the pinkie finger of my left hand, and on my right hand, I have a complete loss of sensation from where the handcuffs were put on SO tight, it cut off blood supply and damaged nerves. I HOPE this damage is temporary, however the right handed thumb doesnt seem to be improving since the arrest. I cannot afford Nerve Conduction tests but will search on how to get this done, Kathey Werner, at Internal Affairs at the couty level said the tapes only reveal me holding my arms out 'like an airplance' --- that is a standard reaction to keep my balance when the vertigo hits. The City of Beaumont Interanl Affairs person, Jim Evans, told me that the arresting office DID NOT HAVE TO TALK TO ME, UNLESS ORDERED BY A JUDGE. I do not have lots of money to agressivly seek justice in this case. I DO wonder how they treat 'just drunks." areound here ..... why was I allowed to be handcuffed, with vertigo, and allowed to fall flat on my face. It has affected the way my face looks - I was bleeing from my mouth and left ear. SOMETING SHOULD BE DONE TO MAKE OFFICERS AWAY THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE **not** DRUNK, BUT ARE SUFFERING FROM ESTABLISHED MEDICAL CONDIIONS. Frankly, ANY person, drunk or not, does NOT deserve to be BEATEN while under the protection of the police. THEYRE THE SERVE and PROTECT ------NOT create far more medical problems AFTER arrest. The Beaumont Police Dept better strap their boots on and clean house. What ever happened to their motto "To PROTECT and SERVE" ?? It is more like to harass and injure. I am disgusted with their inability to protect law abiding citizens and their property - instead, they choose to hang around Crockett Street and harass people. I will be testifying on behalf of a young man that was very cordial to them, yet they handcuffed him, slammed his head against their patrol car (yeah, they are big and bad alright) then one of the officers shoved the young man into the back of the patrol car...with his foot. I was appalled at this treatment of an individual. The spectators watching this, along with 3 bouncers, all said that the young man did not do anything and did not deserve to be arrested. The officers told the crowd that the young man was being arrested for Drunk In Public and Failure to ID. I spoke to him this morning and he said that the officers said the Failure to ID wouldn't hold up, so they had to drop that charge, but he was booked with Drunk in Public. The waitress at the club said he was served two shots of alcohol and was not drunk, as did the other patrons there. Like I told the young man on the phone, it must have been a slow night for the Beaumont Police and they were looking for some action and he was just the unfortunate victim. I will be testifying on his behalf, as will the waitresses, bouncers and the club owner. It's time to take a stand against this brutality and harassment. The Beaumont Police Dept should be doing their job - keeping an eye on our businesses and protecting our communities...not harassing and brutalizing our citizens with fraudulent charges. Is it REALLY necessary to have EIGHT Beaumont Police Officers standing around Crockett Street all night? This happen to me. The Beaumont Police came to my house in 1994. A Beaumont police officier put handcuffs on me so tightly that they caused black and blue marks. I cried and cried asking them to remove them or loosen them they did not. I was taken to Life Resousce in Beaumont and kept overnight. When I went to complain to internal affairs they ignored me. I tried to get a copy of the Police report and the Beaumont Police Dept. said they did not have one.

Beaumont cops on crocket st. in downtown Beaumont treat people unfairly. A man was attacked from behind by another man for no apparent reason while standing at the urinal with his pants undone in the Dixie Dancehall restroom. When he retaliated the cops enterd the restroom and drug the man who was attacked outside, handcuffed, in front of the public to be seen with his pants undone. This man repeatedly asked the officer to let him pull up his pants only to hear the cop repeatedly tell him no. This man was never allowed to tell his version of the story while the man who initiated the attack from behind was never even handcuffed and the cops heard his entire version of the story and believed it. To finally end the situation the cop told the man who was attacked and had been sitting outside on Crockett St. in front of very many people handcuffed with his pants still down that "It is your lucky day. That guy doesn't want to press charges against you. Next time you want to act like superman come find me. I will beat you down." The cop then took the cuffs off and the man finally got the chance to button and zip his pants after everyone had already seen his underwear and his white skinny thighs. friday jan may 14 i was shot at in beaumont tx and called the police for help the first two cops on the scene where very helpful they where able to apprehend the shooter and find the weapon. on the way back to my car they treated me like a criminal myself eventhough i was the one that call 911 they call me all kinds of derogatory names and made a joke of the whole issue eventhough i losty life. im really disappointed in the professionalism on behalf of the bpd

I am in agreement with the allegations made here. I have experienced discrimmination with the district court system. Judge Layne Walker should be investigated. His bully antics toward citizens and attorneys are the worst I've seen. Just recently, I was denied a court appointed attorney and threatened to increase my bond on a interference with child custody warrant. I am not able to pay for attorney and do not feel comfortable with unqualified individuals.

I think some people are not understanding the purpose of this website. We are not saying that officers do nothing that should be rewarded for. We are saying that there are many times that the police abuse there power. They should be out looking for the murders or molesters instead of harrising good people. You can not tell me that there has never been a time when you felt that the police or law did not treat you fairly.
I agree that the police are very important in protecting the citizen in Beaumont. I also know that they need to be agreesive in certain situations when possible violence may be involve. But I can tell you that for certain that the police abuse the Fourth Admendment and they do slander individuals. They use the "PHANTHOM PROBABLE CAUSE" according to how they feel once they come onto your property. Now it is very hard to get a lawsuit heard against them because of the them against us attitude. This makes it impossible for 99% of the citizen to do anything about it. But I am in the 1% that have the funds available to fight for my rights. I might not win but my story will be told. I can't tell much more about this because you can guess why. What a laugh "SERVE AND PROTECT". I was ABUSED WHEN THE BEAUMONT COPS sprayed pepper spray in the air and it came down on little childern and me this causing me to jurk my neck and it got hurting very bad so I ask the POLICE man for help he said not a thing then the beaumont ERM goup was there ask for a ride to hospital and he said just site down it got bad so I ask aging then the beaumont erm,police man said go out side will I got my own ride to the medical center of southeast texas erm room they did Xrays witch show C6/7 bad in my nick due to beening ABUSED WHEN THE BEAUMONT COPS sprayed pepper spray in the air I will fill a complaint and it need to be fixed the wright way I'm in bad pain Wal-mart and the beaumont police will have a suite sent to then Thanks Mr.Kenneth Chadwick my god bless this grate state
