Sutter deputy sheriff allegedly sold drugs

YUBA CITY -- The arrest of a Sutter County sheriff's deputy on
suspicion of selling methamphetamines out of his patrol car has
stunned his neighbors and co-workers and dismayed school and
sheriff's officials.
Early Tuesday morning, Sutter County narcotics officers arrested
Maurice Reginald Taylor, 39, on charges of selling drugs to two
undercover officers on two different nights while patrolling on
the graveyard shift.
The arrest of Taylor, a former assistant football coach at Yuba
College and a single father, followed a two-week investigation
which evolved out of tips from sources outside his department,
Sutter County Sheriff Art Brandwood said.
Brandwood said the arrest has buckled his deputies' morale.
"We're like a family here, and this is like one of our own being
disloyal to the rest of the family," said Brandwood. He said it's
the first time he's been involved in "the arrest of one of my
own" in 36 years in law enforcement.
Brandwood said a search of Taylor's marked patrol car uncovered
an ounce of marijuana. A small amount of methamphetamine was also
found at his Yuba City apartment, he added.
Taylor, who is charged with two counts of sale of narcotics and
three counts of possession of a controlled substance, is
scheduled to be arraigned in Sutter County Municipal Court Oct.
21. He was released from the Sutter County Jail Tuesday on
$20,000 bail.
Taylor did not return a call placed to his home by The Bee.
Taylor has been placed on paid administrative leave pending
completion of an internal investigation, in accordance with
Sheriff's Department policy.
Brandwood stressed that no other deputies are being investigated
in the Taylor case.

This case shows that it is possible for police to police themselves. Must be a lot of good cops in that department. Usually, such arrests are made by some other agency. Here, for example, an internal investigation was blown because the Police Chief warned his friend, the high-school drop-out who he had put in charge of the police academy that he was under investigation for involvement in a prostitution ring.
Good. Now if only we could put more pigs in jail that would solve alot more problems.

To the person who made the comment on May 16, 1998: I work as a Deputy Sheriff for Sutter County, and I don't see how more of us need to go to jail. Former deputy Taylor had us all fooled. We are not perfect, but your contempt for all Peace Officers sure makes your lifestyle suspect........

I was on my way home one day and while driving down the street a police officer was sitting in his car in the middle if the street his was not on a call his was just socializing with someone I sat there for a while to see if he would let me by but he did not so I blew my horn then he turned on the lights on top of the patrol car and got out of the car I think he was just trying to so off he came up to the car I rolled my window down and I just said I just wanted to get by he then said in anger do not blow you horn unless it is an emergency then he made some kind of statement to the car waiting to pass in the opposite direction and they found humor in it but if I was just sitting in the middle of the street like that it would have been wrong but it is okay for them to sit there for no reason just because they want to. and I think it was a race thing I reaaly do. I hope your pretty much getting what I am trying to say.
I was a member of this departement when this occured. Maurice "was" a friend of mine. It completely fucked up the morale of the whole department. After his arrest i took so much shit from the public about "selling drugs" that i eventually left the department and went and worked elsewhere. Maruice was the only black cop in the patrol division and it sure as hell didn't help put down any stereotypes about brothers being drug dealers. Shit was fucked up. Alot of cops do good work, and all it took was one piece of shit cop to make us all look bad.
oh well i mean everyone is a HUMAN ok no one on earth is perfect. but i dont belive all cops are bad or whatever but yes ladys and gentlemens we ARE HUMANS AND WE WILL MAKE MISTAKES!!!
