  • Angelina County a place you can steal and kill, be standing over the body when the sheriff arrives and still be walking the streets 19 months later. Corey Wood was found shot in the left side of the temple on Sept.28, 1999. Corey was right handed and was shot with a 22 rifle. The way Corey was found it would have been impossible for him to have shot him self and the bullet travel the way it did. Corey had just received a 10 dollar a day raise the day before and a promotion, in 3 years he would have been master of his own vessel, a ship captain at 25 years old. Corey had just perchased a new home only 3 months before his death, and many other things a new entertainment center for his new home, he had just had a tooth permently capped only 3 wks before his death and put a 1000 dollars worth of tires on a 4 wheel drive pick-up, he was looking to buy a new jeep on his return trip home, and to furnish his new home. He had made plans and appointments with people to do so. Corey had money in the bank in both of his accounts, 744 in a savings and 996 in his checking. Corey was going back off shore in 2 days. Corey worked on a tug boat and loved his job, the money, and just the work in general. He loved his life, he had told the girl he was crazy about all though school only the night before, he loved her and they had made plans to meet the next day, to spend some time together before he left. I spoke to Corey the night and into the morning of his death on the phone, he was fine, talking about going back to work. How he was going to let his room mates stay as long as there where no more drugs or parties, and people comming and going at all hours in his home. Corey had no drugs in his blood at the time of his death. At 9:00 AM the next morning a sheriff's car pulled up into my drive-way and told me Corey was shot and it was self inflicted. Suicide, I said no-way it had to be an accident. This went back and forth all day. I recieved a phone call from a Lt. Galloway and was told they did not conduct investigations like on TV and they would find a suicide note in Corey's papers. The note was not found because there was not one. Then we were told by a LT Hight that Corey's death was going to be ruled an accident. We buried my son thinking he had had an accident. After he was in the ground we were told by the officer that took my statement Corey's death would be ruled a suicide, and that we really did not know Corey, that 95% of the suicides do not leave a note. This little girl was buying a truck at the same time she was taking my statement and making lunch plans with her mother. I had to correct the statement. Shawn is her name, we have since been told she is the sheriff's girl friend. No experiance what so ever and now she is the investigator or one of them in this County. The investigator that was assigned to my son's case is the Chief Deputies son he was only 22 at the time and had only been on patrol for 3 months, then promoted to investigator. This boy David Casper did not even know how to use the camera on the scene, he only took a few pictures and what he did take did not come out clear because the had the camera set on motion instead of still. The call for help went out straight to the sheriff office at 6:32 AM and was not dipatched out from the sheriff office for 21 minutes later. What in the world were they doing for 21 minutes that they could not pick up the radio and call someone out to my son's home? The call was placed by one of Corey's room mates Brian Wilson he was here at the time Corey was shot, he says he did not hear a thing, but used a fake name when he made the call. We have found out this last week, this boy, his girlfriend, Milinda Boles, Brian's father Randy Wilson all of them where here 47 minutes before the 1st call was made, to get Corey help. WE right now are in the biggest battle to have access to the case file, we have been denied over and over. All we have recieved is a pat on the head, told we really did not know Corey and to go home, " your son commited suicide". I cannot believe this county, and the so called law enforcement would condone the investigaiton that was not conducted into the death of my son. The only thing that was done that could have proved Corey did not or did kill himself was sent to a crime lab in Austin Tx as a suicide so there fore nothing was tested. This is the powder that would have been on his hands. I am outraged at the way law enforcement can stonge arm and abuse the public, don't they work for us, elected by us. How in the world did this get so out of hand. I hung the phone up with my son early one morning and buried him 4 days later. I am going to get some justice here. I have got to have some answers, and all points lead to murder. I hired a PI and he found that from the start, I really did not believe it for a long time, that these people killed Corey. But they did and now since this County has made such a mess of things, they want me to go away. Clearence Case that is what these are called all over our country, I am sadly not alone, there are many cases just like Corey's. I have not even told about the money, the room mates father Randy Wilson forged 6500 dollars out of Corey's checking account only 9 months before he was standing over him when the law arrived. And we have proved he killed Corey, or covered it up for his son. This is proven, we have the checks and witnesses that place this man away from his home at 5:40 am that morning and place him at Corey's at 5:45AM The call did not go out for help until 6:32am. I know I have repeated that I still cannot believe it my self, and these people are still going about thier daily lives. Corey's whole investigation lasted 1 hour and 54 minutes, the last was waiting outside under a tree laughing and joking for the justice of the peace to show up, it took him 45 minutes to get here. The house was never walked though, they let the suspects go, and to come in on thier own and make thier statements. Only the Boy Brian made one, not his dad, and that was after lunch. My parents live only minutes away from where Corey put his home on thier land, these people had to pass my parents home in order to get to Corey's and did not stop, then some of the family went back by and still did not stop. Corey's home was broken into the next day, my Father called the SO and they told him the case was closed, and would not come out. We now know the reason for this was to clean up the blood, we have found traces of blood in other rooms. Bottom line the Sheriff of Angelina County Kent Henson did not want to spend the money for the investigation on my son's murder, it was easier to slap suicide on it and go to breckfast.
