One of the units at Ft. Riley, Kansas will shortly be deploying to Bosnia. The staff is looking for information on Bosnia to allow the soldiers to better understand the people they will be working with and to enable them to fit in. Any help is appreciated. If I can represent Americans for just one minute I would let you all know we are behind you. We (our might government) bicker back and forth as to whether to send you to lend aid to those less fortunate and there really is no other decision here. We here in the US are one of the few nations that has truly no fear of battles within its borders. We live in a time of peace in the US. For all those men and women who join together and hope to keep that peace, what better way to help keep our peace but by keeping the peace around us. Until a time comes, and hope it never does, that we need our troops within our borders, let's share some of our good fortune with those who are less fortunate around the World. Again, wishing our Armed Forces and World NATO Forces a happy, healthful and peaceful 1996. Alexander" Holiday greetings and best wishes for safety to all! I wish to ask an unusual question to people in BiH: do you know of any university that could use an instructor in English language and literature? Why do I ask this... This July I spent 10 days in Mostar. The strength, determination, and courage of its Muslim inhabitants was mythic in intensity amidst hideous adversity. While shells fell and snipers assassinated, the citizens around me fought to live without rancor. I lectured on literature, the language of war, American politics, etc. I'd like to return to Mostar, or to anywhere in BiH that I can teach. I don't have money, nor am I a politician with influence. But I can help in this small way. If anyone reading this can contact the faculty of the University of East Mostar, or of the University of Sarajevo, or any other collegiate site which needs an energetic and experienced lecturer in English, please do so! I'd be thankful for decades. And I can be reached at : phone: (313) 994-3767, or (313) 764-0418 email: bnalexan@umich.edu mail: Department of English University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105 USA Bryan Alexander Department of English University of Michigan ********************** From notes@igc.apc.org Wed Dec 27 15:19:17 1995 Received: from igc5.igc.apc.org (192.82.108.36) by MediaFilter.org with SMTP (MailShare 1.0b10); Wed, 27 Dec 1995 15:19:18 -0500 Received: from cdp.igc.apc.org (cdp.igc.apc.org [192.82.108.1]) by igc5.igc.apc.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id LAA17118; Wed, 27 Dec 1995 11:50:28 -0800 (PST) Date: 27 Dec 1995 10:55:12 Reply-To: Conference "zamir.chat" From: laura_ruben@prenhall.com Subject: Re: http://mediafilter.org/SJ/Pages/Happy to hear from you To: Recipients of zamir-chat-l Message-ID: <1392051306-2229357@mediafilter.org> In-Reply-To: <1404318165-359161@mediafilter.org> X-Gateway: conf2mail@igc.apc.org Errors-To: owner-zamir-chat-l@igc.apc.org Precedence: bulk Lines: 31 I just wanted to wish all the troops in Bosnia helping to preserve peace in a nation torn apart a happy and healthy New Year and hope that the next year brings peace to all those whose lives have been and will be affected by the terrible things that are going on in Bosnia and in other areas of the world. We take many things for granted in the US and can only hope that with our troops over there, we can bring some of those things to those who have never seen or have had their freedom taken from them. We (the mighty government) bicker back and forth as to what to do with our troops, but there is only one answer. Many men and women join together in our armed forces and hope for peace always. We have and will likely continue to see peace within our borders therefore, little use of a defense in the US is necessary. We, as a giving nation, can only lend our support to those less fortunate by supplying man- power to create a world that is better for EVERYONE to live in. Again, I wish all our Armed Forces and World NATO Forces a very happy holiday season and a Peaceful 1996.
