Oh, dear, Worker's World are at it again. What the headline should say is "SMALL US MARXIST SECT DEMANDS:". WW have often sent messages to Bosnia-related newsgroups in support of the Milosevic regime ("SERBS DEFEND SOCIALISM"), I can only presume on the basis that anyone opposed to the USA and NATO must be good ('my enemy's enemy is my friend'). They've consistently refused to recognise that Serbia is a rabidly nationalistic, authoritarian, and repressive regime that suppresses internal opposition systematically and which no socialist worthy of the label could possibly describe as a 'workers' state'. That WW have a point in their criticism of US and NATO involvement in the Balkans, which as Ivo has pointed out recently is based on economics and power politics than morality, and socialists can only view US 'involvement' (aka "adventurism") outside the USA with extreme suspicion (just read Noam Chomsky to understand the real motives of the US), but to consistently deny the evil of the Milosevic and Karadzic/Mladic regimes as WW has done is at best to fly in the face of reality and at worst to offer support to fascism. (They also get on my nerves by claiming to speak for all workers, but then this is standard for Marxist sects - certainly in the UK there are 100s of such tiny factions and all claim to be the 'true voice of the working class'.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Riley Email: f.h.riley@langc.hull.ac.uk Software Development Adviser Tel: 01482 466316 CTI Centre for Modern Languages http://www.cti.hull.ac.uk/hotlist/fr.htm University of Hull HULL, England HU6 7RX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
