The incident happened 2 years ago in Newfoundland. Just having turned 32 years old, I had graduated from University with a degree in Administration and Managememt Studies and was working for a respectable business. I was planning to return to St. Andrew, Scotland in two days to see my father. It was approximately 11:15 pm. I had just come home from work and was extremely tired. I had just taken off my shoes and was about to change when suddenly the door bell sounded. I answered the door, finding two repair men with large tool boxes. When I asked them if I could help them, they told me that they were from Consumer Gas and that the houses on my street were having problems with the heating. Showing proper ID and being really animate about the proper functioning of my heating system, I let the two men in. It was a mistake I would regret for as long as I live. When I let the two men in and closed the door behind them, they immediately pulled a handgun on me and told me to keep quiet and that this was a robbery. At this point I was scared out of my wits. After confirming that I was alone in my house the men forced me into my bedroom. There, while one man trained his gun on me, the other proceeded to open his large tool box to reveal long lengths of rope, rolls of thick duct tape and several bandanas. The man first tied my hands behind my back and then asked me whether I had any breathing porblems such as asthma. After telling him no, he then proceeded to gag me with the duct tape. Having a beard at the time made the process difficult so he wrapped the thick tape very tightly around my mouth and head a great number of times making sure my entire mouth was covered in tape. After taping my mouth shut, he tied my arms tightly to my chest. His partner in the mean time was already beginning to ransack through my house for valuables. After securing my arms, the man forced me to sit down on the floor where he tied my knees and ankles together, purposely revealing my thick knee high black socks in the process which I couldn't understand why. He also secured my ankles to the foot of my bed so I couldn't worm my way out of my bedroom. He then blindfolded me. At this point, I was completely terrified, unable to move, see or talk. I was having difficulty breathing due to the tightly wrapped duct tape around my mouth which also partly covered my nostrils. I was also sweating profusely due to my tie and sweater vest outfit and because I was so nervous and scared. There was even a point where I thought they were going to kill me after they had robbed me since I had gotten a look at their faces. Desperate at this point, I started to struggle hard against my bounds and gag hoping to free myself ragardless of whether or not my attempt to do so was futile. In response, the man just laughed at me and patted me on the shoulder. I then heard the door to my bedroom close. Alone and almost on the verge of tears, I started to pray to God for mercy and his love. I prayed to him to also give forgiveness to the two men who had done this to me -- threatening my life and violating my rights as a person. After what I thought to be several hours, I heard the door open and the two men approach me. At this point, I truly believed that they were going to kill me, and so I made my final prays and just listened to the sound of my breathing. Instead, they just checked and tightened my bounds, gag, and blindfoldand left. I stayed tied and helpless for approximately three and half days, when I was finally rescued by the police who had been called by my neighbors who had just returned home from their trip and heard my muffled cries through the wall of our town house. For this incident, I had plenty of counselling and fortunately for me, support from my friends. Though the police are still searching for the perpetrators who put me through this ordeal, I now consider myself very lucky to have survivied this incident with my life only having to lose material possessions.
