It happened in Germany. Eventually their federal state and local police forces were united under Himmler & Heidrich and were the most feared and 'organized' in the world. The final result of 'militarizing' their police forces became known as the Waffen SS. Hopefully, we all 'remember' what happened over there. Perhaps we should recall the quote: "Whoever doesn't 'learn' from history is bound to repeat it."
Waffen SS part of police forces???? Hmmmm What history book did you get that from?
Waffen SS was an elite military unit, not a Police organization. Improving Police organization and efficiency ("militarization" if you want to call it that)will do a lot more to curtail crime than to harm the public. We need to be a lot more concerned about the steady erosion of the second amendment. As long as Nazi Germany is the topic du jour, please recall that the public was disarmed before wholesale arrests and concentration camp internments could begin.
What , does the guy who writes....."disarm the public" live in a vaccum?
READ THE DAMN STUDY YOU NINNIES!sOCIAL PROBLEMS VOL 44 FEB 97!

What are you guys talking about? Whats the subject about anyway?
so-called 'narcotics task forces' are federally-funded para-military groups pretending to be police whose only function is to round up suspected drug users. whereas the police are required by law to 'knock and announce', drug warriors beat in your door with a battering ram. whereas by law you are innocent until proven guilty, drug warriors have the authority to act as judge, jury and sometimes executioner; and even if you are proven innocent you are still considered guilty. the only crime they are interested in stopping is the use and sale of illegal drugs, which are both activities which affect only those who choose to be involved. the level of violence used by these warriors against unarmed, and constitutionally innocent citizens is inexcusable. and, THEY TAKE ALL THE GUNS, legal or not, no matter who they belong to. and, even if you are somehow able to escape this nightmare without a felony conviction, they will not give you back your guns. talk to somebody who was old enough during the 40's to remember the nazis; you will know what this is about.
The Edmonton Alberta Cop Watch agency "Citizens for Peaceful Communities" is seeking to put together a working committee to make a brief for submission to a meeting of the CALEA [Commission oon Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies] This meeting will be held in Buffalo at the end of July 2004. The Associate Director has informed us that there is not enough in the Manual on allegiance to democratic protections of constutional rights and customary procedures. He has suggested that it would be a useful goal to set up a proposal on what ought to be expected of law enforcement agencies on upholding these basic standards. If you are interested please contact "councilofalbertans@yahoo.co.uk". Please forward this message to anyone who may wish to join this ad hoc working group. Or forward to anyone who may be willing to spread the word. We only have a month or so. Best regards, Alan Blanes, for Citizens for Peaceful Communities [ a member of the Albert Public Interest Research Group, APIRG]
